Make Domino's Style Garlic Breadsticks at home!
Domino's is my favorite pizza place! Nothing beats their cheese crust pizzas and their garlic bread. So this lockdown hit me hard. When I realised that I could no longer visit my favorite place or even order from there! So I got to thinking and decided to make my own garlic bread- Domino's style! I read many recipes on the internet and watched many videos, did a little experimentation and arrived at this perfect recipe!
These garlic bread sticks and Domino's garlic bread sticks are the same! Nobody can tell the difference. When I took the first bite of my bread I was completely lost in the flavor! It really is that good! If you don't believe me, try it for yourself and find out!
Tips:
- You can easily use double or half the ingredients mentioned
- I always use refined flour and wholewheat flour in 50:50 ratio and it cooks just perfect
- Be liberal in the use of butter or your bread will be dry
- Oregano seasoning contains salt, hence you don't need to add it separately
- You can also sweet corn to the bread, it tastes delightful!
- If you are not using instant yeast, activate it before using it
- You can totally skip adding cheese to the bread and instead enjoy it with cheese dip on the side
- If you are using herb and garlic butter, instead of normal butter, use lesser quantities of herbs and garlic than mentioned in the recipe
- If you don't knead the dough well or if it fails the window pane test, your bread may taste chewy and hard
- Garlic bread sticks taste best with cheese dip
250 gm refined flour (or 125 gm refined flour and 125 gm wholewheat flour)
180 gm warm water
50 gm softened butter
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp dry yeast (if it's instant, you don't need to activate it)
2 tsp oregano seasoning (this contains salt)
1 tsp chili flakes
3-4 cloves of garlic, crushed or finely chopped (or more, as per taste)
1/4 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
Corn Meal for sprinkling
Method:
- Heat about 20 gm butter and add garlic cloves to it. Keep aside
- In a bowl, sift the flour and add the yeast, sugar, oregano and chili flakes. Mix them well
- Add some warm water to the mix and knead into a soft dough
- After the dough has been kneaded transfer it to a platform from the bowl
- Spread about 20 gm of the softened butter on the platform and roll the dough over it. Incorporate the softened butter into the dough by mixing and kneading on the platform
- After the butter has mixed well, add the olive oil and knead well. Butter and olive oil will make the dough soft and flavorful
- While you are kneading the dough, keep stretching it. Check for the window pane test (take a small portion of the dough and make a ball, then flatten the ball and stretch it, if the dough ball doesn't tear while stretching, then it's ready)
- After your dough has passed the window pane test, rest it for exactly 10 minutes
- After 10 minutes, again knead the dough. The resting makes the dough more elastic. Check for the window pane test again
- After the dough has passed the window pane test again, make a dough ball of the entire dough and keep it in a well oiled bowl for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size
- After an hour, puncture and flatten the dough. Spread some cornmeal on a platform and roll the dough over it. Flatten the dough. Make sure that it isn't very thick
- Brush the dough with the prepared garlic-butter mixture, oregano, chili flakes and grated mozzarella cheese
- Roll it over in the shape of Domino's garlic bread and tuck the edges inside, properly tucking the bread is very important or else the cheese
- Once again, brush over the garlic butter on the bread and make vertical cuts over the it. However, do not completely cut the bread. These cuts should only be deep enough to pull the bread apart and keep it aside for 1 hour
- After an hour, bake the bread in pre-heated oven at 180° for 15 minutes
- Take the bread out of the oven and once again brush with softened butter
- Serve with cheese dip and enjoy!
